Daily Sketch Challenge
I grew up on Mork and Mindy. Always enjoyed Robin Williams' stand-up. Looked forward to his visits to the late night talk shows as I got older. Admired the risks he took in movies to take serious, dramatic roles and just give knock-out performances. Enjoyed many of his family movies as they weren't necessarily built for schtick but had an element of drama within the comedy.
The Genie in Disney's Aladdin, though, was a a role that utterly, perfectly, brilliantly encapsulated everything there is to love about Robin Williams. I loved the movie when it hit theaters; I loved watching it repeatedly with all my children as they grew up. I love watching it still. I enjoy every zany, tender, silly moment of the Genie's. I feel badly for a crew of animators that had to create from improvised lines a whole new dimension to the character Robin birthed.
His work lives on indefinitely, but his presence will be missed. I pray for his wife and children and his friends.
