Robin I

Robin - Dick Grayson

Done for the Daily Sketch Challenge.

Two things have always frustrated me about Robin:

1) He has had the same 1940's haircut since his inception. Since my favorite Batman era was the late 1970's into the 1980's, I felt a need to update Dick's haircut to reflect at least the 1970's (although this look is back in style now)

and

2) Robin started as a twelve/thirteen year-old but never seemingly gets drawn with the appropriate build. Yes, he's an acrobat and quite physical, but even as he grew into late teens and eventually became Nightwing, he would have remained shorter than he is portrayed, and would have had muscle more akin to a gymnast than bodybuilder... otherwise that leaping around stuff would have been nigh impossible. Fortunately, I have a thirteen year-old, active son who is a good gauge for me to employ as reference when needed...

This was fun, but I'll be honest, I spent nearly an hour and a half on this. I had this image in my head and wanted so desperately for it to translate to the drawing as I saw it.
